Verify Your NDIS SIL Provider Is Registered for 2026

From 1 July 2026, every provider delivering Supported Independent Living (SIL) in Australia must be registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. For participants and families, this change raises a straightforward but important question: how do you actually confirm whether your current SIL provider is registered?

Let’s explore how to check what the registration details mean and what steps to take if your provider is not registered before the deadline.

Why Verifying Your SIL Provider's Registration Matters in 2026

Until now, Supported Independent Living (SIL) could be delivered by both registered and unregistered providers. Participants with plan-managed or self-managed funding had the option to use providers operating outside the Commission’s oversight.

From 1 July 2026, that changes. Mandatory registration for all SIL providers means that any provider without current registration on or after that date will not be able to lawfully deliver SIL supports. If your provider has not registered in time, your support may be at risk of disruption.

Checking registration status is not a complicated process. It takes a few minutes and gives you clear, verified information about your provider’s current standing with the NDIS Commission.

Where to Check: The NDIS Commission Provider Register

The Provider Register lists providers registered with the NDIS Commission. You can search for a provider that is currently registered, or whose registration has been suspended or revoked.

The register is publicly available at ndiscommission.gov.au and does not require an account or login to access. It is updated regularly, and the last update date for provider register data is shown at the bottom of the search results.

To search the register, you can use the provider’s name or their Australian Business Number (ABN). You can also view their history with the Commission, check for any banning orders or past issues flagged against the provider, and access information about the provider’s registration conditions and scope of services.

How to Verify an NDIS SIL Provider in 5 Steps

To verify whether an NDIS SIL provider is registered:

  1. Visit the NDIS Commission Provider Register.
  2. Search using the provider name or ABN.
  3. Confirm their registration status shows “Approved”.
  4. Check that Registration Group 0138 appears on their registration.
  5. Review the registration expiry date and any compliance notices or banning orders.

Completing these five steps gives participants and families confidence that their provider is authorised to deliver SIL support.

What to Look for When You Search

Finding your provider in the register is a starting point, not the end of the check. There are several things to check once you locate their listing.

Registration Status

Filter results to show only approved providers. A status of “Approved” means the provider holds current registration. A status of “Suspended” or “Revoked” means the provider is no longer authorised to deliver supports under the NDIS.

Registration Groups

Each registered provider is approved for specific registration groups. From 1 July 2026, SIL providers must hold Registration Group 0138: Assistance with Supported Independent Living. Confirm that this registration group appears on your provider’s listing, not just a related group such as 0115.

Registration Expiry Date

Registrations need regular renewal. Knowing the expiry date helps you avoid service gaps. If your provider’s registration is due to expire soon, ask them directly whether they have submitted a renewal application.

Banning Orders and Past Issues

The NDIS Commission publishes banning orders and past issues flagged against providers separately from the main register. Checking for these gives you a more complete picture of their current standing.

Questions to Ask Your Provider Directly

Checking the register gives you verified information, but speaking directly to your provider fills in the gaps. Ask the following before July 2026:

  • Ask for their NDIS registration number. Registered providers receive a unique identifier and should be comfortable sharing it straight away.
  • Ask whether they hold Registration Group 0138. This is the specific registration category required for SIL providers from 1 July 2026. A provider registered under a different group may not be covered.
  • Ask for a copy of their certificate of registration. The NDIS Commission issues a formal certificate. Legitimate providers will happily show you a copy. The certificate confirms the registration groups, the registration period, and any attached conditions.
  • If the provider is currently unregistered and in the process of applying, ask for evidence that they have engaged an approved quality auditor and confirmation of their audit dates.

What a Certificate of Registration Includes

If a provider’s application is successful, they will receive a certificate of registration. Their registration details will also be published on the Provider Register.

The certificate lists the registration groups the provider is approved for, the registration period, and any applicable conditions. For SIL providers, the certificate should list Registration Group 0138 from 1 July 2026.

If a provider’s application is unsuccessful, they can contact the NDIS Commission to request a review within three months of the decision. If the outcome is still unsuccessful after that review, they can take the matter further to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.

What If Your Provider Is Not Registered?

If your current SIL provider does not appear on the register, or their registration does not include Group 0138, there are a few steps to take.

First, speak to your provider directly. Ask whether they are in the process of applying and request evidence of their audit engagement. Some providers may be midway through the certification process and on track to complete registration before July 2026.

Second, speak to your support coordinator or plan manager. They can help you assess the timeline and whether your provider is likely to complete registration in time.

Third, if your provider cannot confirm they will be registered by 1 July 2026, begin exploring other registered providers in your area. Short-term arrangements are in place to help avoid gaps in support, but they are not a long-term solution and should not replace planning ahead.

Your SIL funding allocation is not affected by these changes. The reform targets provider eligibility and safeguards, not what participants are entitled to receive. However, accessing that funding requires using a registered provider from 1 July 2026.

What Registration Means for Your Supports

Registration is more than a status on a register. Here is what it requires of a provider.

Once a provider has applied, their application is audited against the NDIS Practice Standards and assessed by the NDIS Commission. For SIL, this means a full certification audit involving a documentation review and an on-site assessment.

Every worker delivering SIL supports must hold a valid NDIS Worker Screening Check. This is a condition of registration, not an optional step. Providers must also have documented systems for incident management, safeguarding, and supported decision-making.

Registration is also not a one-off process. The NDIS Commission sends registered providers a reminder around six months before their registration expires. Providers must submit a renewal application online and provide evidence that they continue to meet the NDIS Practice Standards.

For participants and families, this means a registered provider is checked regularly and independently, not just when they first apply.

For Providers: Confirming Your Own Registration Status

Providers who are unsure of their current registration status or the groups they are approved for can log in to the NDIS Commission portal to review their certificate of registration and registration conditions.

The NDIS Commission has updated how providers log in to its portals. Providers now need to verify their identity using myID to access the portal. If a provider does not have an account, they can set up an account with myID. The person responsible for the business will also need to use the Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM), a system that allows someone to act on behalf of a provider organisation.

Providers who need to add Registration Group 0138 to their existing registration must apply for a variation. The variation application is submitted via email to registration@ndiscommission.gov.au. Only key personnel can submit the application. If the variation requires an audit, the application must confirm that an auditor has been booked and include proof of the agreed audit dates.
