SIL Provider Altona | SIL Support Near Altona Meadows and the Bayside
Families in Altona who move their loved one into SIL often worry about one thing: will they still be part of this community. Altona has a tight local network. People know their neighbours, go to the same shops, the same beaches. Moving away for SIL support can feel like losing that.
Hilda Care is a SIL provider near Altona with access to homes in the bayside area. We understand why community matters. When you move into SIL with us, you stay close to the places and people that matter to you. Your support is built around keeping those connections, not losing them.

Understanding SIL Costs and What Your Plan Actually Funds
Many families in Altona assume SIL will cost more than they can afford. They get told a figure but do not understand what is included or how it compares to living on their own.
SIL is NDIS funding that pays for support workers. It covers personal care, meals, household tasks, medication, getting to appointments and community activities, and overnight support depending on your plan. What it does not cover is rent, food, utilities or the house itself.
The cost depends on how many hours of support you need each week. If you share a home with others, the cost per person is lower because support workers are rostered across multiple people. If you have an independent home, the cost is higher because all support hours are yours alone.
Before you move in, we give you both figures in writing. The weekly SIL cost and the estimated weekly living cost. That way you see the full picture and can work out whether it fits within your income.
If SIL is not yet in your plan, your support coordinator can check whether it should be. See our SIL funding eligibility guide for how the NDIA decides.
Living by the Bayside With 24/7 Support in Altona
Many people in Altona love where they live because of the beach, the local shops, the parks and the community feel. They worry that moving into SIL means losing access to those things because support workers cannot take them everywhere.
Your SIL support is built around what matters to you. If you want to walk to the beach on weekends, that is part of your routine. If you want to catch up with friends at a local cafe, your support worker can help you get there. If you want to be part of a community group or activity, we plan your roster around it.
Altona has good local access to Altona Beach, Point Cook Coastal Park, and local shops and services. Your support workers understand the area and can help you stay connected to what you love about living here.

Staying Connected to Your Community and Social Life
Some people worry that living in a shared SIL home means losing their independence and their ability to see friends or do the things they enjoy.
Your daily life is yours to shape. We build your support around what you want to do, not what is easiest for us to staff. If you have a weekly catch-up with friends, that time is protected in your roster. If you want to volunteer, attend a group or pursue an interest, we factor that in.
Staying connected to your community is not something you give up when you move into SIL. It is something we help you keep.
What Happens if You Need Overnight Support or Active Night Care
Some participants need someone awake through the night. Others need someone on site but not awake. Many families do not understand the difference or know what option suits their situation.
Overnight support comes in two forms. Active night support means a worker stays awake and available through the night. Sleepover support means a worker stays on site and is available if you need them, but they sleep. Which one you get depends on what your plan funds and what you need.
Before you move in, we talk through what overnight support means for you. If you have health concerns that mean you need someone awake, we arrange that. If you mainly need someone available in case something goes wrong, sleepover support often works well.

Building a Support Plan That Fits Your Budget and Needs
Many people in Altona are unsure how to ask for the right level of support. They do not want to ask for too much and waste funding, but they also do not want to ask for too little and struggle.
Your support coordinator and us work together to build a plan that fits what you actually need. We start by understanding your current situation. What are you managing on your own? What do you need help with? What are your goals?
From there, we work out how many hours of support make sense and what that costs. If your budget is tight, we discuss options like shared homes or lower-intensity arrangements. If you need higher levels of support, we explain what that means and what it costs.
The goal is a plan that is realistic and sustainable, not one that stretches your resources too thin.
Health Services and Getting to Appointments in Bayside Melbourne
Getting to medical appointments is hard when you rely on someone for transport and that person is not always available. Some people in Altona put off appointments because arranging support is complicated.
Transport to health appointments is part of your SIL support. Your support worker helps you get to your GP, specialists, therapy or other health services. We coordinate with your support coordinator so appointments are planned into your roster and transport is reliable.
Altona is close to Point Cook Medical Centre, Altona Meadows Family Practice and Williamstown Hospital. Your support worker knows the area and can help you get to the services you need.

Moving in With Confidence When You Have Never Lived Away From Family
Some people in Altona have lived with family their whole life and have never lived anywhere else. Moving into SIL can feel scary because everything is unknown. They worry about whether they will manage, whether they will be lonely, whether support workers will understand them.
Your first week in a SIL home is designed to help you settle. Before move-in, you meet the team who will support you. On move-in day, your room is ready and one of your support workers walks you through the home. In the first week, we check in with you regularly. Not just if there is a problem, but to see how you are going.
By the end of week one, you know your support workers, you know where things are, and you have someone you can call if you need something. Most people find the transition easier than they expected.
Questions Altona Families Ask About SIL
Are your homes actually close to Altona Beach or Altona Meadows?
We have access to SIL homes in Point Cook and the Altona Meadows area. Point Cook is close to Altona Beach and the bayside parks. If being right in Altona is important to you, we discuss what is available at the time and work with your coordinator to find the best fit.
I have never lived away from my family before. Is this going to be too hard?
Moving away from family for the first time is understandably scary. Your first week is designed to help you settle and build trust with your support team. Before move-in, you meet the workers who will support you. In that first week, we check in regularly to see how you are going. By the end of week one, most people feel more confident than they expected.
What if I want to spend weekends at the beach or at community activities?
Transport to places you want to go is part of your SIL support. If you want to go to Altona Beach, Point Cook Coastal Park or community groups on weekends, we build that into your routine. Your support worker helps you get there.
How much does it cost compared to living at home with support from my family?
SIL costs depend on how many hours of support you need per week. If you share a home with others, the cost per person is lower. If you have an independent home, the cost is higher. Before you move in, we give you both figures in writing so you can see what fits your budget. We also discuss whether shared or independent living makes more sense for your situation.
What if I get sick or need to go to the hospital?
Getting to medical appointments is part of your support plan. If you need to see your GP or go to hospital, your support worker arranges transport and helps you get there. Williamstown Hospital and Point Cook Medical Centre are close by. We coordinate with your support coordinator to make sure appointments get booked into your roster in advance.
Can my family visit me or take me out on weekends?
Yes. Family visits and time with your family are part of your life. Your support worker can help arrange that or provide support during visits. If your family wants to take you somewhere, we work that into your routine.
What if I find the housemates are not a good match?
We do careful matching before anyone moves in to avoid this. But if it does not work out, we work through it with everyone involved. If it cannot be resolved, we discuss moving to a different home or arranging in-home support. You are not stuck with a situation that is not working.

My experience dealing with this organisation has been very disappointing. They seem unorganised, unprofessional arrogant and downright disrespectful of peoples time.Posted on Google![]()

Hilda Care is outstanding. As a Support Coordinator, I’ve had situations where I needed a Support Worker at the very last minute for my cleints, and they delivered without hesitation. Not once or twice but always. They found the right person within hours and made sure the client felt safe and supported. They have paid heed to client’s feedback and tweaked their services accordingly everytime. Their staff are well trained, reliable, and always go above and beyond to meet client needs. It’s clear they genuinely put clients first. Highly recommended.Posted on Google![]()
