SIL Provider Box Hill | Support That Puts Your Goals First
Many people in Box Hill have a clear picture of what they want their life to look like. They want to work, study, go out, stay connected. But they are not sure how to make that happen while getting the daily help they need. They worry that SIL providers will make them choose between their goals and getting support, or that they will end up in a situation that does not fit who they are.
Hilda Care is a SIL provider in Box Hill where we start by asking what matters to you, then we build support around that. We do not force you to fit into a template. We are registered with the NDIS (Registration Number: 4050126032) and we know what makes SIL work well in the eastern suburbs.

SIL Support in Box Hill When You Have an Active Life
Some people worry that moving into SIL means slowing down or losing the activities that matter to them. They do not know how support can actually fit around an active routine without getting in the way.
Your support is built around your actual life. If you work or study, those times are protected. If you have regular activities, groups you are part of, or places you go, we keep those in your routine. Box Hill has good transport access through the Belgrave line at Box Hill Station. We coordinate with your support coordinator so your SIL support works with everything else in your life, not against it.
Your life does not stop when you move into SIL. We make sure it keeps going.
What It Takes to Move From Living With Family Into Your Own SIL Home
Some people have lived with family their whole life and feel anxious about moving out. They worry about whether they will manage, whether they will be lonely, or whether support workers will understand them the way family does.
Moving out is a big step and it is normal to feel anxious about it. Before you move, we make sure you know what to expect. You visit the home, you meet some of your support team, and you understand what your first week will look like. We do not put you in a situation you have not seen or prepared for.
In your first week, we check in with you regularly. Your team knows what to look for because they will be supporting you ongoing. By the end of week one, you know your team, you know how things work, and you have a person to call if you need something. Most people find that they feel more independent and capable than they expected.

Understanding Your Real Costs Before You Commit to SIL
Some people do not understand what SIL actually costs or what they have to pay for themselves. They get confused about funding, then feel stressed when they realize the real cost. This confusion often stops them from moving forward.
SIL funding from the NDIS pays for support workers. It does not pay for rent, groceries, utilities, or the house. You pay those from your own income, usually through the Disability Support Pension and Commonwealth Rent Assistance.
Before you start with us, we give you exact figures in writing. What your SIL support will cost per week. What living in a shared or independent home will cost per week. What your total weekly cost will be. That way you see the full picture and can work out whether it fits your budget. We also review what your NDIS plan actually funds so there are no surprises later. For more detail on how the NDIA decides what you can have, see our SIL funding eligibility guide.
Building a Support Team That Actually Gets Your Routine
Some people end up with support workers who do not understand their life, their schedule, or what matters to them. They feel like they have to explain everything over and over, or workers do things differently each time.
We build your support team around your actual routine. We talk with you about what you do each day, when you work or study, what you like to do, what your commitments are. We find workers who fit that routine and who will be reliable. We aim to keep the same team supporting you so you build a relationship and do not have to explain yourself constantly.
A good support team is one that gets you. Not one that gets the job done. There is a difference.

Keeping Your Independence While Getting Help With Daily Tasks
Some people think they have to choose between being independent and getting support. They worry that asking for help means losing control over their life or decisions.
You do not have to choose. Independence is not about doing everything alone. It is about having the right help so you can do the things that matter to you. Your support workers help with tasks you need help with. You stay in control of your life and your choices.
If you can make breakfast with a reminder, we remind you. If you can do your own laundry, we support you to keep doing that. If you need full help with personal care, we provide that. Support is there to help you do what you want to do, not to take over.
Moving Into SIL Without Losing Your Connections in Box Hill
Some people worry that moving into SIL means losing touch with friends, family, or the community they are part of. They do not know how to keep their connections while getting support.
Your connections stay protected in your routine. If you have family nearby, we build in time for visits. If you are part of groups or activities in Box Hill, we protect that time. Transport to see people you care about or do activities you care about is part of what we provide.
Moving into SIL does not mean losing your community. It means staying part of it with the help you need.

When Things Are Not Working in Your SIL Arrangement - What to Do
Some people move into SIL and then discover things are not quite right. Maybe the housemates do not fit, or the routine is not working, or they need different support. They worry they are stuck or that raising a concern will cause problems.
You are not stuck. If something is not working, contact us. We listen to what is not right and we work to fix it. Small problems get addressed early so they do not become big ones. If a housemate fit is off, we talk with you about that. If your routine needs adjusting, we adjust it. If a situation is truly not working, we explore alternatives with you and your coordinator.
SIL is supposed to work for you. If it is not working, we fix it or we find something that does.
Questions Box Hill Families Ask About SIL
Do you have homes in Box Hill itself or do people have to move elsewhere?
We have SIL homes available in Box Hill and the surrounding eastern suburbs. Depending on what is available and what suits your situation, your home might be in Box Hill or nearby. We discuss your preferences with you.
I work in the CBD and commute from Box Hill. Can I keep my job if I move into SIL?
Yes. Your SIL support is built around your work schedule. We protect your work hours. Box Hill Station is on the Belgrave line which connects to the CBD. Transport to work is part of what we provide. Your job stays protected.
What if I need to go to a doctor or hospital? How does that work with SIL support?
Transport to your GP, specialists, or hospital is part of your SIL support. Box Hill Central has medical clinics and there is Whitehorse Day Surgery nearby for day procedures. Your support worker helps you get where you need to go. Your coordinator and we work together on your health plan.
I have lived with my family my whole life. Will I be lonely if I move into a shared SIL home with people I do not know?
You might feel lonely for a bit while you are settling in. That is normal when you move into something new. Your support team knows this and checks in with you regularly. We also make sure we match you with people carefully so you are living with people who you can get along with, not random people.
What if I am not ready to move yet but want to know about SIL for later?
You can contact us anytime. There is no rush. We answer questions and help you think through whether SIL might work for you. When you are ready, we move to the next step. When you are not, we wait.
Do support workers change a lot or do I get the same people?
We aim to keep a consistent team supporting you. You work with the same workers regularly so you build trust and they understand your needs. When shifts need covering, we use workers who already know you. Consistency matters.
What if I want to try shared living first but later want to move to independent living?
You can make that change. If shared living works for a time and then you want your own place, we can help with that transition. You are not locked into one living arrangement forever.
How long does it actually take to start SIL after my plan is confirmed?
Most people start within 14 days of their SIL funding being confirmed. We do not have long waiting lists. Once your funding is ready and we have talked through your needs, we work to get you started quickly.

My experience dealing with this organisation has been very disappointing. They seem unorganised, unprofessional arrogant and downright disrespectful of peoples time.Posted on Google![]()

Hilda Care is outstanding. As a Support Coordinator, I’ve had situations where I needed a Support Worker at the very last minute for my cleints, and they delivered without hesitation. Not once or twice but always. They found the right person within hours and made sure the client felt safe and supported. They have paid heed to client’s feedback and tweaked their services accordingly everytime. Their staff are well trained, reliable, and always go above and beyond to meet client needs. It’s clear they genuinely put clients first. Highly recommended.Posted on Google![]()
