SIL (Supported Independent Living) on the Mornington Peninsula
For many families, finding reliable SIL on the Mornington Peninsula takes longer than it should. Most providers list the Peninsula as a service area, but their workforce is based in inner Melbourne. Once you get past Frankston, the roster starts showing gaps: a support worker who cannot reliably make the commute, shifts covered by whoever is available rather than someone who knows the participant. Families spend months sorting out an arrangement, only to watch it fall apart at the staffing level.
Hilda Care operates with a local team. Before we start any SIL arrangement on the Peninsula, we confirm the roster. If we cannot staff it properly from day one, we say so. We would rather tell you that upfront than start a service we cannot deliver.

What SIL Funding Pays For and What It Does Not
SIL stands for Supported Independent Living. It is an NDIS-funded support service that pays for trained workers to help you with daily tasks in your home, personal care, meals, medication prompts, overnight support, and building the everyday skills that make independent living possible.
SIL funding sits in your Core Supports budget. The NDIS pays your provider directly for the support hours. You do not pay for the support workers out of your own pocket.
| What SIL Covers | What SIL Does Not Cover |
|---|---|
| Personal care: showering, grooming and dressing | Rent or property costs |
| Meal preparation and managing nutrition | Groceries and food |
| Medication prompts and health routines | Electricity, internet and household bills |
| Household tasks such as cleaning and laundry | Personal spending money |
| Getting to appointments, therapy or community activities | |
| Building practical daily living skills at your own pace | |
| Overnight support or active night shifts, depending on your assessed needs |
You still pay your own living costs, the same as anyone living independently. Most participants cover these through the Disability Support Pension and Commonwealth Rent Assistance. Before anything is agreed, we give you the weekly support cost and the weekly living cost estimate in writing so you can see the full picture before you commit.

What Makes SIL on the Mornington Peninsula Different
The Peninsula is not one suburb. It stretches from Frankston through Mornington, Rosebud, Hastings and down to Flinders, roughly 45 minutes of coastline and a very different geography from metropolitan Melbourne.
That distance matters for SIL. A provider who can staff an arrangement in Frankston may not be able to staff the same arrangement in Rosebud. The travel time, the local workforce availability and the road network on the Peninsula are all different from what works in the suburbs closer to the city.
We are direct about where our roster reaches. If you give us your suburb, we will tell you what the team looks like, how many local workers we have, what their availability is, and whether we can cover your required shifts consistently. We do not start a service and hope the staffing works out.
The other difference is response time. A lot of Peninsula families have dealt with providers who are hard to reach once the service is running. At Hilda Care, you have direct contact with a real person, and we reply the same day.
SIL Homes and Rooms on the Peninsula: What Is Available Now
Dedicated SIL homes on the Mornington Peninsula are limited. We are currently working towards opening a Peninsula home, and in the meantime we have three options for participants looking for SIL in this area:
If you already have a property renting privately, in social housing, or living with family, we bring the support workers to you. No move required.
A room in our Frankston home: 2 rooms available now
Frankston sits at the top of the Peninsula and is 20 minutes from Mornington. For participants who need a supported home now, this is the closest available option.
For participants who have both SIL and SDA funding, we have access to Seaford SDA places through our provider network. Seaford is approximately 10 minutes from Frankston.
Priority intake is open for the Peninsula. We are actively planning a Hilda Care home on the Mornington Peninsula. If you register now, you will be the first we call when a place opens. Call 1300 440 777 or use the enquiry form to go on the list.

SIL Support in Your Own Home on the Peninsula
If you already have a home on the Peninsula renting privately, in a Housing Victoria property, or living with family, SIL funding can bring support workers to you. You do not need to move into a shared home to access SIL.
This is the most common arrangement for Peninsula participants. Your home stays your home. We build the roster around your NDIS plan, your daily routine and your address. The support workers come to you.
In-home SIL on the Peninsula can cover the full range of support for morning and evening routines, overnight care, skill building and community access, depending on what your plan funds. The level of support is matched to your assessed needs.
SIL Support Across the Mornington Peninsula
We provide SIL support across the Mornington Peninsula including:
Mornington, Mount Martha, Rosebud, Hastings, Somerville, Langwarrin, Seaford, Carrum Downs, Frankston North, Skye, Baxter, Tyabb and surrounding areas.
If your suburb is not listed here, ask us directly. The list above covers our regular service area, but it is not exhaustive. For suburbs further south, Flinders, Red Hill, Rye, we assess staffing on a case-by-case basis and give you a straight answer about what is possible.

SIL vs SDA: Which One Do You Need?
SIL and SDA are two separate NDIS funding streams. They are often mentioned together because some participants have both, but they are not the same thing, and you do not need one to access the other.
SIL pays for your support workers, the people who help you with daily tasks inside your home, whatever that home is.
SDA Specialist Disability Accommodation pays towards the cost of housing that has been purpose-built or significantly modified for people with very high support needs or an extreme functional impairment. SDA is the property. SIL is the support inside it.
Most SIL participants on the Mornington Peninsula do not have SDA funding. They live in ordinary rental properties or their own homes and use SIL to fund their support workers. A smaller number have both SDA funding for a specialist property and SIL funding for the support inside it.
If you are unsure which applies to your situation, our full SIL vs SDA guide walks through how the NDIS treats each one and what the eligibility criteria look like.

Questions Peninsula Families Ask Us
Do you have a SIL home on the Mornington Peninsula?
Yes. We have a SIL home in Mornington with rooms available now. We also deliver SIL support in participants’ own homes across the Peninsula. Contact us to find out what is currently available and whether it is a good fit for your situation.
Can you staff a roster as far down as Rosebud?
Yes We roster a local team to every arrangement before the service starts. We do not begin a service we cannot staff reliably. Tell us your suburb, and we will give you a straight answer about what the team looks like and whether we can cover your shifts consistently.
Can I move straight from Frankston Hospital?
Yes. Send the referral from the ward and we reply the same day. Hospital discharges are a priority and we are set up to move quickly when a participant’s team needs to plan accommodation before discharge.
Does SIL pay the rent?
No. SIL pays for your support workers. Rent, bills and food are paid from your own income, usually the Disability Support Pension and Commonwealth Rent Assistance. We give you both figures in writing before you make any decision.
What if SIL is not in my NDIS plan yet?
Talk to your support coordinator about what the NDIA needs to consider SIL. The core document is a proposed roster of care that sets out the level of support you need across the day and overnight. We can explain what that involves and what your support coordinator will be putting together.
Can I get SIL support in my own home on the Peninsula without moving into a shared house?
Yes. If you already have a home on the Peninsula, whether renting privately, in a Housing Victoria property or living with family, SIL funding brings the support workers to you. You do not need to move. We build the roster around your plan, your daily routine and your address.
What happens if I am on the Peninsula and my support needs change after SIL starts?
Contact us. We review your roster with you and your support coordinator and adjust it when your needs change. You do not have to wait for a plan review. Call 1300 440 777 and we reply the same day.

My experience dealing with this organisation has been very disappointing. They seem unorganised, unprofessional arrogant and downright disrespectful of peoples time.Posted on Google![]()

Hilda Care is outstanding. As a Support Coordinator, I’ve had situations where I needed a Support Worker at the very last minute for my cleints, and they delivered without hesitation. Not once or twice but always. They found the right person within hours and made sure the client felt safe and supported. They have paid heed to client’s feedback and tweaked their services accordingly everytime. Their staff are well trained, reliable, and always go above and beyond to meet client needs. It’s clear they genuinely put clients first. Highly recommended.Posted on Google![]()
